Examination:
The first clinical procedure Dr. Cohen will do is a thorough dental examination. He will assess the condition of your teeth as well as the gum tissues and structures inside the mouth, checking for decay, periodontal (gum) disease, and any evidence of oral cancer.

Dental Cleaning:
Cleaning your teeth involves removing all of the plaque and calculus (tartar) from your teeth in order to restore them to optimal health. This procedure is done with a variety of precision instruments that are designed to get your teeth clean quickly, gently and thoroughly. Dental polishing follows, which not only smoothes the teeth, but makes them easier to clean at home, and removes stubborn stains such as coffee, cola beverages and even nicotine.

Periodontal Therapy (Gum Disease):
Periodontal (gum) tissues link your oral health to your general health! Dental plaque is the trouble-making, bacteria-laden film that forms on your teeth and is responsible for most dental disease. Its presence under the gums causes your tissues to become red and swollen and also creates a bad taste and odor. Periodontal disease needs to be recognized, diagnosed, and treated. Healthy gum tissues are necessary to maintain all of your dental work in top condition, and will prevent the bacteria that hides under your gums from entering your bloodstream which can cause systematic disease. Much has been written in medical journals about the connection between periodontal disease and heart disease, and it is our objective to give every patient the required treatment and the instruction necessary to maintain excellent oral and systematic health.

Periodontal disease may not be very obvious to you, but if your gums bleed, if you have loose teeth, or if you detect a bad odor or taste, then a complete examination and treatment are necessary to keep your teeth and to improve your general health.

Treatment is often very conservative, consisting of a deep cleaning below the gums where the disease is hiding. This is done in sections of the mouth, using local anesthetic to assure complete comfort.

Children’s Dentistry:
We make it easy, quick, and fun for your kids! The Little Ones get to know our office at two years of age when they will get a "ride" in the chair as they sit on their parent’s lap.

Once the child comes in for his or her initial visit our office takes an approach to children that they really like… We treat them as real people! Parents and children appreciate our nurturing, gentle and respectful approach. The children remain in the practice as they transition from childhood to adolescence and adulthood.

Our office Pediatric Preventative Dental Care has three components:

  1. The in-office tooth cleaning and exam along with home care instructions.
  2. The topical fluoride is applied to your child’s teeth helping to prevent tooth decay.
  3. The sealants, a hardened coating, we place on your child’s permanent teeth that also prevent tooth decay from developing.
